Free Wheelchair Mission are a faith-based nonprofit with a life-changing mission. They provide mobility, dignity, and independence to people living with disabilities in developing countries. Since launching, they have distributed more than 1.5 million durable, cost-efficient wheelchairs across 95 countries, all at no cost to recipients. With a team of just 40 people, they are working to meet the global need for mobility, which currently affects over 80 million individuals.

As they grew, Free Wheelchair Mission realized their small internal Salesforce team could no longer keep up with the demand. They were using Salesforce but lacked development resources and needed more advanced support.

They wanted a trusted partner who could respond quickly and flexibly to requests for help. That is when they found us, the Passion Fruit Partners team. Managed Services from Passion Fruit allowed them to get Salesforce support when they needed it, in the way that worked best for them.

Mackenzie Gillespie, Director of Operations, Free Wheelchair Mission shared;

“We wanted a partner who felt like an extension of our team. Working with Passion Fruit never feels transactional. It feels like a true partnership. They understand our budget, our mission, and our desire to learn. I’ve worked with other consultants before, and what Passion Fruit brings is something totally different: alignment with our goals and a real sense that they care about our success.”

Powering Through Managed Services:

Since working with us, everything Free Wheelchair Mission has completed working with our team has been powered through Managed Services. From one-off tasks to complex enhancements, the flexibility of this model has been critical.

A great example Mackenzie shared with us recently, when asked about the power of our collaboration, working with our Managed Services team was:

“Passion Fruit have helped us build donor impact tracking so we can show each supporter how many wheelchairs they’ve provided over time.

They are wizards at getting things done! They connected Shopify with Salesforce, which eliminated manual entry and streamlined donor orders. They also integrated Aircall so our fundraisers can call and text directly from Salesforce with every interaction logged automatically. Since adding texting in March 2024 we’ve already sent or received nearly 2,750 messages. These are real tangible time savings that let our fundraising team focus more on building relationships and less on admin.”

Award Nominated:

We are very proud that our work with Free Wheelchair Mission has been globally shortlisted for a Digital Revolution Award, a global technology award which seeks to find the best technology provider making the biggest impacts.

Mackenzie shared: “Working with the Passion Fruit team has been nothing short of incredible. Everyone we’ve partnered with has been kind, knowledgeable and genuinely invested in our mission. It really feels like they’re part of our team not just a vendor.

And something I’m really proud of is that their work with us has been recognised globally. We’ve been shortlisted for a Digital Revolution Award for our work with Free Wheelchair Mission. I can’t think of a team more deserving.”

Values, transparency, and ROI.

At Passion Fruit, we’re proud to support our clients with whatever they need. We bring deep nonprofit expertise, creative thinking, and practical experience to every challenge. Our goal is always to deliver the best solution with the highest return on investment while staying within budget and being completely transparent throughout. Whether it’s a quick fix or a complex project, we pride ourselves on building trusted partnerships that make a lasting difference.

One thing we often hear from the team at Free Wheelchair Mission is that they never felt like they were being sold to. That’s because our approach is rooted in empowerment – helping clients solve problems with us, not for us.

“What I love about working with Passion Fruit is how flexible and empowering their support is.

They always ask,
‘Do you want us to build it? Show you how to build it? Or build it and teach you as we go?’

That level of choice has been so valuable for our team. It lets us get the help we need while also learning and growing our own internal capacity.

Every time we had a Shopify issue, I would ask to watch what they were doing so I could understand and learn. It never felt transactional, it felt like a true partnership.

The team understood our budget, our mission and our desire to learn. For any nonprofit considering working with them I cannot recommend them highly enough.

You will not find a more thoughtful knowledgeable or kind partner. They come to every call with fresh ideas, genuine compassion, and a deep understanding of the nonprofit world. They help us stay focused on our mission while giving us the tools to scale our impact.”
